A harsh truth about life is sometimes a bad day turns into a crappy few months. Believe me, it happens to the best of us because pain doesn’t play favorites. But the time you’re spending crying about how bad things are will delay a new season in your life.
“Every next level of your life will require a different you.” So guess what? If you’re ready for the “next level” to happen, you’ve got to “grow” through some difficult sh*t.
There are levels to this thing called life.
Let’s take a quick look back at my life in 2016.
In July, I traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to speak at a women’s empowerment conference. When preparing to return home, I arrived at Kenyatta International Airport and realized I had someone else’s passport. Custom officials quickly let me know I could not leave the country and turned me and my 2 suitcases away from the security checkpoint. I stood at the airport counter and cried snot nose tears like I was on the TV show “Locked Up Abroad.” (I’ll continue with this story for another time).
Luckily, I was only stuck in Kenya for 24 hours. But once I returned to the U.S. I was greeted with a car that was not driveable, and a $3,000 car repair. The following week, I lost 2 major clients contracts.
At this point, I was all of out F*#ks to give. And to top it all off, in October my mom fell ill and landed in the hospital’s intensive care unit for about 6 weeks and then she remained in the hospital until February 2017.
I was a basket case.
But here’s what I know for sure: When you’re facing the storms of life, your eyes will convince you things are impossible. So you have to train your mind to find the good in everything.
On this podcast, I talk about a few ways to move past your negative thoughts.
Here are some reminders:
- If you don’t like something take away it’s only power….Your negative attention.
- Never reduce your life to the event you are facing right now.” Because you’ll miss out on opportunities and never see what’s ahead of you. Trust your process. ~Michael Dyson
- A hustler isn’t born when they find success. A hustler is born when they’re out there pounding the pavement and creating their own opportunities despite what their bank account looks like or the problems they’re facing at home.
- Ultimately, through the good, bad and ugly of life, you’ve got to take FULL responsibility for the space you take up on earth.
Listen and let me know your thoughts.
